4-Strand Braided Rug Workshop

  • Grow Benzie 5885 Frankfort Highway Benzonia, MI, 49616 United States (map)

WHAT:

Four strand rug braiding is an old lost art with Finnish roots. Traditional three-strand braided rugs are woven into one long braid which is then sewn continuously in the round. Four-strand rugs are thicker, stronger, and are made by braiding and weaving the strands directly into the rug as you go. Whereas typical three-strand rugs often have areas that come apart, in need of repair, you will not find that happening with this method. Making these rugs is a great way to give unwanted fabrics a beautiful new purpose! This workshop will be  led by Lori O’Neil, who has taught this class for many years at NMC, throughout northern lower Michigan, the eastern UP, and even Guatemala!
